Teaching

I have been teaching privately and through various music schools for the past 7 years or so. I really enjoy teaching for the relationships I establish with my students and because through teaching I learn a lot myself about music. Also, I believe that transmitting knowledge to another person can be one of the most rewarding experiences.

My philosophy of teaching consists in determining and understanding my students' strengths and weaknesses, and in designing a specific course of study for each one of them. I always take in consideration my students' musical tastes and inclinations in presenting new material, and I try to balance the technical aspects of learning how to play the drums with the creative side of playing and learning about music. I also put emphasis on listening and analyzing music by ear.

Some of the subjects I cover in my classes are: posture, hand and foot technique, snare drum rudiments, reading, coordination, a large variety of musical styles and genres, improvisation, understanding form, polyrhythms, etc.

I teach private lessons at my studios (in Astoria, Queens and Prospect Park South, Brooklyn) or at students' homes around NYC. I teach beginners as well as advanced students and students of all ages, starting from about 5 years of age.
